Who We Are
DGBIoethics was founded on Bainbridge Island in the US State of Washington in 2021 by Rafael (Rafa) Escandon. Endlessly curious about the nexus of social norms, medicine and ethics, Rafa has been fascinated by ethical complexities in technology, medicine and clinical research since writing a report on the Quinlan case in middle-school.
Initially trained as a cardiovascular physiologist, Rafa spent 3 decades conducting clinical trials in small molecules, biologics and genetic medicines across many indications from cardiology to oncology to CNS to rare diseases and many conditions in between.
Mid-career, after identifying an increasing need for training in research ethics, Rafa went back and obained masters and doctoral degrees with concentrations in public health and bioethics.
